West Bengal DA Hike: 38% Dearness Allowance for Employees & Pensioners
In a massive relief for state government employees, teachers, and pensioners, the West Bengal government has announced a historic jump in Dearness Allowance (DA). The DA has been hiked from the existing 18% to 38%, marking a straight 20% increase.
Key Highlights of the Announcement
- Huge Salary Boost: Both active employees and pensioners will see a flat 20% increase based on their Basic Pay or Basic Pension.
- Implementation Date: The new 38% DA rate will be directly added to your salary/pension starting from the month of October.
- Applicability: This applies to all WB State Government employees, teaching and non-teaching staff of government-aided schools, and pensioners.
🚨 Important Note on Arrears: It has been officially clarified that the 20% DA hike will be implemented directly from October without any arrears. No past dues will be calculated or credited to GPF/Bank accounts.
How Will It Affect Your Salary?
The calculation process is very straightforward. Since the DA has increased by exactly 20%, your monthly net income will increase by approximately 20% of your Basic Pay.
For example: If your Basic Pay is ₹30,000, your salary will see a direct increase of roughly ₹6,000 per month starting from October. (Note: A nominal deduction might occur depending on your Professional Tax slab).
💡 For Pensioners: You don't need complex calculations. Simply find out your Basic Pension (Total Bank amount minus ₹500 Medical) and calculate 20% of it. That exact amount will be added to your bank account next month!
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
From which month will the new 38% DA be effective?
The enhanced Dearness Allowance of 38% will be implemented directly in your salary and pension starting from October of this year.
Will we get any DA arrears for the previous months?
No. The government has stated that the new rate will be applied prospectively. There will be no arrears provided for the months preceding October.
Does this 20% hike apply to WB Pensioners as well?
Yes, absolutely. All retired West Bengal state government employees and teachers receiving a pension will get the exact same 20% hike on their basic pension amount.
Will my HRA (House Rent Allowance) change due to this?
No, HRA remains unaffected by the DA hike. HRA is calculated at 12% of your Basic Pay (subject to a maximum of ₹12,000). Since your Basic Pay remains the same, your HRA amount will not change.
